| I am entirely against this in every way.
The first 300, while a good pump up movie if seen for the first time and in a theater, it was a terrible film. The main reason for this is also one of the things that many people love about it. It's just the way it looked. It was 90% CGI. It was like watching someone play God of War in some weird multiplayer mode. Watchmen can partially be excused for this because of the difficulty of what they had to portray, but 300 came off feeling like Spartans mixed with Cirq Du Solei and I blame Snyder for that entirely. There was no reason that 300 couldn't have been shot with real backgrounds. It's the same complaint that I had with Beowulf. If you have perfectly good actors then for God's sake don't make us watch them in CG! If you insist on making the movie animated at least do something interesting with your animation that adds to the mechanics and feel of the film (See: A Scanner Darkly).
This just goes to show the greed of Hollywood that they would make a sequel when only 1 of the 300 survives. Frankly, (NICE PUN!) I'm disappointed with Miller. This is clearly just him trying to cash in on his propety's success at Snyder's hands.
TL;DR - Fuck you Snyder, you make ugly movies.

| ok so... i like 300.
I think that Snyder did a very good job adapting the comic to film format.
i also think you should go become an hero because you just compared one of the best cgi films with the WORST abomination that i have ever seen that called itself a movie. i mean, yes, you could tell it was cgi, and yes at some points it was painful, but i also think that it really couldn't have been done the way it should any other way... (not saying it didn't have problems) i think it was done in the best way possible, yes real backgrounds would have been nice, but the focal point wasn't the background it was the action that was taking place in front of it... i have great respect for the men that acted for this movie (and watchmen or any other cgi film for that matter <excluding beowolf of course) because of what Jake said about working on The Frighteners (which i can't exactly remember at the moment and i don't wanna do a disservice to the man)
I think that , although it may have catalyzed the process, Miller was already working on or throwing ideas around for a sequel of sorts to begin with, and you shouldn't be so hard on the man. I think that because of the circumstances the work will be no where near as good as his usual, but it will be fairly entertaining. I for one will at least devote some time to sitting in the isle of a bookstore reading it.
tl;dr: i disagree, mostly

| I liked Watchmen.
You're right, you could ALWAYS tell it was cgi, the movie looked like a pastel drawing, the majority of it was painful. You completely contradicted yourself there. You said the way it was was the best way and then said real backgrounds would have been better. You're right again, the point wasn't the background. The point was the foreground, and that's exactly why the movie blew. You're trying to concentrate on the overly dramatic action and the moronically simplistic writing, and instead all you can find yourself thinking is how gritty they're making the foreground and how sugar coated and dreamy everything in the background looks. Jake was having to imagine talking to things, what the "Spartans" were doing was essentially the same thing as givving a Justin Timberlake background dancer a sword. That being said, I won't pretend what they were doing wasn't impressive.
Catalyzed is a cheap word for saying "the money he was raking in turned a half-baked idea in his head into a half-baked project". A project that I'll have to hear stupid and unfunny quotes from for another two years until 300 3: SON OF LEONIDAS makes its big screen debut and is held up as the pinnacle of American filmmaking.
Now come on, dammit, someone agree with me that the Frankly thing was a NICE PUN!

| Yes, same as the 300 sequel.
Honestly I might just move to Malaysia if I'm going to have to deal with Bruno quotes driving me fucking insane until 300's sequel comes out and then I'll have a whole new set of far more annoying quotes.
Honestly, I'm guessing one of the (current) Juniors will be the first to quote Bruno at me. And that person will regret it.

| I don't know how I feel about this.
I mean, I love Sam Raimi, but I don't know if this is really a great idea. Aside from any difficulties inherent in making a movie out of a franchise like this, I don't know if Raimi is the right director for a Warcraft movie. I, personally, would be confident if they got someone who's more at home with fantasy, like Peter Jackson or Guillermo del Toro (though to be fair, del Toro has a LOT on his plate right now).
I do have to say, a del Toro Warcraft movie would look AMAZING.
EDIT: Okay, forgot to mention the producer is Charles Roven, the producer behind Batman Begins, TDK, and 12 Monkeys. That makes me a bit more confident.

| Forthcoming information about the TRON movie from Comic-Con: Daft Punk appears to be set to score this film, and according to Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski, Daft Punk may be so proud of their score that they'll take it on the road, not something they do particularly often. Kosinski also claimed that he'd met Daft Punk at a "mysterious pancake breakfast in L.A." and that they were wearing their helmets. This news I find moderately more interesting because it raises a number of questions along the lines of: How exactly does one eat pancakes with the Daft Punk helmets on? I would have to assume that they have some sort of mechanized moving lot in their mouths, or maybe some kind of pancake IV drip? | |

| More news on the Tron: Legacy front.
First, Quint of Ain't It Cool News gives us some seriously amazing concept art from the movie.
Even better, though, is the trailer, featuring a fight with the light cycles, and an appearance from who I assume to be our (former?) hero, Flynn (Jeff Bridges is in the office and it's a young Jeff Bridges in the suit, and he played Flynn originally.)
