| Do you need tech support? well you probably won't get it from me, but I'll be around regardless.
Anyway, if you have a tech question, ask for help here, don't expect it to be timely, but who knows, maye it'll at least be insightful.

Because we are slower than 7chan... ^ Anyhow list any and all programs that you think everyone ought to at least try and what system they run on (and maybe even where to get it): For instance - Rainmeter - Windows XP and Vista (http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Rainmeter.shtml)

| I find that neither of those two are extremely important for normal people... (cccp or gom)
I will however agree with winamp and opera

| True, but normal usually only extends to streaming. Movies, maybe they would DL. | |

| um... ok... so we seem to have a disagreement...
I think that, although firefox is a viable and popular browser, one does not necessarily need to try it. One should use the browser that best suits their interests and usage. If one wishes to make an informed decision about the above point, I would urge them to try all of the major browsers (with the exception of IE of course) and pick the one that they like best.
A list:
Opera Firefox Chrome (my personal preference at the moment) Explorer (NEVER EVER)
If I have missed anything please add.

| I don't really think you missed anything. Seamonkey is terrible, by the way.
In related news, I don't really think that IE is all that bad. It has all the really vital systems, yeah it might be bare bones, but as long as we're talking normal people, I can't see any reason not to include the browser that normal people use.

| Maybe because it sucks and is slow?
This thread doesn't need to be in this topic.
I would just like to say I'm working on getting the server up and running, I just have to figure out Apache.

| well, I put it here in anticipation of server issues.
Also, we understand that IE is lame, but normal people don't and you can get on just fine with it. Regardless, it seems a tad unfair that you have to figure this out all by yourself. At least you have something to do now, right?

| OpenOffice.org 3.0 is out; I'm currently using it as a replacement for Micro-Office since I can't for the life of me find the disks...
Anyhow, this is the first time I'v used OpenOffice and I must say that I'm impressed. I like it's layout better than the crappy Micro-Office 7 (or whatever is current) Although it doesn't have all of the features of Micro-Office, I would actually recommend it, especially for someone who is on a tight budget.

| I have Word in the technical sense, I have the disks upstairs, I just like Open Office better, so I've never fealt the need to re-install an inferior program. | |

| I'd love to give you my two cents on this but seeing as I love to yell at people regarding programs I find inferior to other programs (7zip>winzip) but since I never use either of those I cant. | |

| How unfortunate for you, but really (and this is just out of curiosity) what makes 7zip better than winzip? | |

| Well, for starters it's open source, so you're supporting something that is free rather than a free version of something that you have to pay for. Another reason is that in my personal experience WinZip has had problems unzipping multiple file archives, while 7zip never gave me a problem. 7zip also has an expandable thingy in the right click menu, rather than WinZip's 4 or so icons so it keeps it looking cleaner. Another good thing about 7zip is that its a pretty small and not very intrusive program, it doesn't have anything but the options in the right click menu so you don't have to open up another window just to unzip things. And although this is debatable, and I have never actually tested it, I believe 7zip might be faster then WinZip.
Those are my reasons for preferring the open source 7zip to the free trial WinZip.
